I was delighted when my agent Margaret Gee secured interest in publishing a U.S. edition of DEAD LUCKY with the Tarcher imprint of the Penguin group. Thanks to the efforts and inspired strategies of Shanta Small, my publicist at Tarcher/Penguin, I visited thirteen cities in five weeks and gave presentations at all of those cities. During that period I gave several dozen radio interviews, and six TV interviews. I also managed a day's rockclimbing in Santa Fe during the Memorial Day Weekend, thanks to Slate Stern, my good friend from Everest 06. In Sacramento also caught up with Dick Ratliff, whom I climbed with in Peru and 1980, and in Yosemite (1985) and Tuolomne Meadows (2002). In Seattle I stayed with Rini Sulaiman, who climbed Cartstensz Pyramid with me in 1993, becoming in first Indonesian woman to achieve that feat.
