Australian American Makalu Expedition 1999
On this expedition I was not only attempting to climb the 5th highest mountain in the world, I was also shooting digital video for two documentaries and writing the scripts for both. Although bad weather stopped my partner Bob Sloezen and I from reaching the top, the summit was reached by Dave Bridges (USA) and Michael Groom (Australia). It was Michael's 6th 8,000 metre peak.

Two of our porters show off the all-weather clothing we provided for them. The skyline ridge into the clouds was our route to the Barun Valley.

Camp in the Barun Valley
We reached this campsite late, in a storm and with minimal visiblity. In the morning sunshine we were stunned by the scene around us.
